lead taken out of the plant by the workers on their clothes. A number of recommendations are made: these include emphasizing once more that top management carry the responsibility for the protection of the health of workers; the importance of industrial hygiene and monitoring of the atmosphere, and the desirability of close co-operation of those concerned with the works medical officer; the edu...
متن کاملDegradation of endrin, aldrin, and DDT by soil microorganisms.
Twenty microbial cultures which had been shown to degrade dieldrin were tested to determine their ability to degrade endrin, aldrin, DDT, gamma isomers of benzenehexachloride (gamma-BHC), and Baygon. All isolates were able to degrade DDT and endrin, whereas 13 degraded aldrin. However, none of them was able to degrade Baygon or gamma-BHC.
متن کاملA Blood Test Diagnostic of Exposure to Aldrin and Dieldrin.
The findings of a diagnostic blood test for the presence of hexachloro-epoxy-octahydrodimethanonaphthalene (H.E.O.D.) performed on whole blood obtained from operatives of plants manufacturing two chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides, aldrin and dieldrin, and formulating products containing them and from dogs experimentally exposed to dieldrin have been reported. When clinical signs of poisoning...

The main objective of the IPCS is to carry out and disseminate evaluations of the effects of chemicals on human health and the quality of the environment. Supporting activities include the development of epidemiological, experimental laboratory, and risk-assessment methods that could produce internationally comparable results, and the development of human resources in the field of chemical safe...
متن کاملEffects of Dieldrin, Picrotoxin and Telodrin on the Metabolism of Ammonia in Brain.
1. Increases in the concentrations of lactic acid and pyruvic acid in rat brain during acute dieldrin poisoning are associated with hyperactivity of the brain, whereas an increase in the cerebral alanine concentration occurs before the convulsions. Throughout the dieldrin-induced seizure pattern, fluctuations in the concentration of brain ammonia are out of phase with the actual convulsions. 2....
